Bathroom Extractor Fan Reviews
In the UK today there are nine specialist ventilation manufacturers: Manrose, Silavent, Xpelair, Vents, Envirovent, Soler & Palau, Vent Axia, Greenwood and Airflow, all of whom offer a number of different bathroom extractor fans, making for a bewildering choice.
In this review we have compared some of the UK's most popular fans covering a range of budgets.
What we tested:
- Air Flow - How much moist or stale air the fan extracts in one hour measured in metres cubed.
- Noise - The figure is given in decibels at 3 metres
- Max Duct Run - a very important consideration, often over looked.
- Bathroom Zone - Can the fan be installed in all zones or just zone 3? We scored five stars for all bathroom zones and two stars for zone 3 only. Remember:
- A zone 3 fan is not a bad fan - it's just less versatile and constricts where you can install it.
- In some cases, a fan range will include low voltage fans suitable for all zones and mains voltage fans which are not. A two star score means that no fan in that range can be installed in zones 1 and 2.
- Looks - purely objective and just our opinion
- Energy usage in watts.
- Value for Money - this takes into account the price of the fan and how good it is. So, for example the Xpelair VX100 is not the best fan in the world, but it is very cheap, so scores well on value for money.

Axial Extractor Fan Reviews
Axial extractor fans use a simple blade impeller, like the ones used on desk fans, for example, and are designed to be fitted on and ducted straight through the wall. They are not designed for long duct runs.

Centrifugal Extractor Fan Reviews
Centrifugal fans neither look nor perform like axial fans. Using a centrifugal impeller they are generally more powerful and consequently they are bigger, use more energy and are a little noisier than axial fans..
